Oh dear 23rd January 2008

I did so badly in exams.

But it seems that I’m not the only one. This year’s results have really hit me hard, both physically and aquatically. Since getting back my CIE results, there have been many cases emerging that the English Literature paper (the one I did badly in) has had some catastrophic screw-ups. Many in my class (namely the ones who’s last names are near the end of the English alphabet) have gotten disgusting exam marks from this examiner - And this isn’t to say they’ve dropped a few percentages, but rather, 20-30% of what they were internally graded.

A large majority of these students have applied for an appeal, however, for me (which apparently is where the marks started to drop away), am on the borderline and probably won’t get the free appeal, but rather, will have to pay a fee ($80 New Zealand Dollars) for the appeal. Right now, all I can do is hope really. Hope that the examiner’s corrupt marking is highlighted and the whole partition of exam papers marked under him is scheduled for re-marking.

I, for one, have lost all respect for this once credible examination board. I expected competitive yet fair international standards. I hope I win.

  1. Don’t worry I did bad too. Didn’t stop me from getting into uni. Too bad I spent all that time in the uni tavern. However, it’s all about experience these days (for design jobs anyway). Btw I’m 20.
