Post-Macworld depression 16th January 2008

Initial reports told us that there was heaps to come - But the only real she-bang was the MacBook Air. Now I am left to wonder, how many joules of energy were unnecessarily burnt by fan-boys who were excitingly anticipating a new MacBook Pro and a 3G iPhone.

Kingston Datatraveler 2gb benchmark 15th January 2008

Couldn’t find this online, so I thought I would document this for other people to see (and also gain hits from search engines).

Kingston Datatraveler 2GB (DTI/2GB) [green], USB 2.0 interface

Objective: Investigate the read and write speed of the drive.

Test subject: 701 MB .avi file

Results:

Read: 4.27 MB/s
Write: 3.01 MB/s

Evaluation:

Very slow, even for a consumer-level drive. However, there have been reports of even slower drives out there on the market. Patience is highly recommended.

29 March 2007 30th March 2007

It’s been a while since I posted, hence the emphasis of the date as a title. Heaps of school work been going on, as highlighted in previous posts, and that I blame for the lack of posts. Today’s weather was wretched - the winds were blowy, the rain was wet and umbrellas turned from being jellyfish to squid (i.e., they turned inside-out). Actually rainy days are quite funny; for example today, Jeremy doesn’t know how to handle an umbrella which resulted it to turn inside out. His dismal attempt to turn it back to normal was very funny - so-much-so I nearly lost control of the sphincter muscle which keeps urine from pouring out of my bladder. I still hate rain more than I love it. When I arrived home, I was like a sponge - water was absorbed throughout my clothing; shoes became mini lakes of water and hair became emo-like. Hm, yes it’s the walk to and from school which I dread the most on rainy days.

I also obtained some misc gadgets off Trademe. I bought a lovely designed netgear wireless modem/router, model DG-824G and a really nice S+ARCK mouse - however I wished I could have obtained a blue one of these. The Starck mouse is a collaborated effort between Microsoft and world-famous designer Philippe Starck; an attempt to create a revolutionary mouse. Looks really nice, have a look. Oh, and like always, I like to take apart things before I use them. On this occasion dismantling the mouse was harder than anticipated - the hemisphere buttons actually clipped out sideways from the mouse.

See you, see you later, it’s time to say goodbye… eh-no-hora I’m leaving, I really got to run, so… etcetera.

New motherboard 21st July 2006

After carrying out an infinate number of tests, I have singled down the problem to be either the Processor at fault or the Motharboad. I am pushing my luck and saving myself from a hole being burnt through my wallet by ‘purchasing*’ a new Motherboard — Which means time to reformat.

*Disclaimer: I am not actually buying the motherboard but rather just paying for the shipping fee.

Reformat Scheduled 14th April 2006

Reformat scheduled for the 28th April.

Contemplating Reformatting 12th April 2006

So here’s how the story goes:
One day I decide to buy some more ram (512mb) to boost my system capabilities. And so I did - 512 ram PCI 3200, 400mhz @ $72 NZD with warranty etc, then I install it onto my computer and see no performance change. So I swapped it with my 333mhz 512 ram which was in slot 1 suggestign that it may boost performance (as they say put the larger or faster ram in slot 1). Yeah and I restarted my computer and it CRASH o.o - I then changed the ram back then booted - had like that disk error checking and said that some system file was corrupt - well it fixed that then everything worked fine. But then everything seemed to go down the cliff - first windows started up without detecting my graphics card (by teh way my heart rate was at about 150 bpm) then my Counter-strike files became unplayable and then today my explorer.exe kept crashing every time I opened a notepad file (although its okay now) - So yeah oh yeah my start up time also slightly increased. So therefore I am contemplating reformatting - I have backed everything up and everything is good to go - all I need to do is wait for Hugo to come back from Japan to supply me with his Windows XP with corporate edition cd key…
