Crazy things happened, such as a house fire 22nd February 2008
Many things happened in my posting absence; I went to sleep and even went to school for 5/7ths of a week, but the most memorable is the witnessing of a massive house fire up on my street.
It was about 8:00pm, Thursday just gone by, when I went to close my window (to keep those pesky mosquitoes from attacking me in my sleep), when I saw a large plume of smoke. The smoke was an awful shade of grey - not your typical fire. I then started to video the smoke plume, before some sense kicked in and I realised it was a house fire. Sirens could be heard softly crying in the distance. I dashed out the door to witness the greatest event on my street for 20 years (great in the sense that it was significant).
“Oh wowzor”, I said to myself, in my brain. Fire was much more intense when I first witnessed it (which I didn’t put a photo up of because the dusk of day made it difficult to get a steady shot in low-light without an anti-shake facility), and within 5 minutes of the men in yellow (firemen) arrived, the inferno was reduced to white puffs of smoke.
I think my brain is working really slow these days, but it took me until the next morning to realise that a guy from my school lives there, which is wowzor multiplied by two. Day light revealed the extent of the damage, with over half of the house ‘painted’ in matte black; the car (burnt) was still in the garage too.
Yes, the greatest thing I’ve seen on my street in 20 years (well actually, it’s 17 years).
